On top of that, he’s a complete loser
As mentioned in Korman Productions Deep Dive TV Podcast: Earth Abides on MGM+ Deep Dive Episode 1 "Alone" with Dave and Stacy (2024). Normally a first episode would be a good one, but this one isn’t particularly bad, as it seems like a global pandemic is ending civilization. It’s only been three weeks since he left, but with the way everyone talks and acts, it feels like months or years.
Well, it didn’t last long
He starts off as some grounded guy who likes to live off his own grid. Looking at the cover image, when he meets her, she’s a strong independent woman who doesn’t need a man but can tag along like a lost puppy. If there’s almost no one left, like in 28 Days Later, and there’s no threat of infection, it’s not really clear where the entertainment is coming from.

This episode is just about the survivors whining about being alive. Maybe the textbook slaves (maybe Christians look bad) are waiting to start a new world order and they have to escape them? "One Hundred Years of Solitude" is one of the biggest TV and streaming premieres this month.
