The series has been around since 2018, but I’m just watching it for the first time. I finished the first episode of the first season last night, which is almost 90 minutes long. When we’re introduced to the Dutton family, we see them fighting off “invaders” who have a big influence in their valley.
One is a developer who wants to build apartments
Another wants to reclaim his land and livestock from a neighboring Native American reservation. To help manage everything and the size of his ranch, Dutton (played by a real-life Kevin Costner, 60) has a couple of grown cowboy sons and a helicopter with a dedicated pilot. For this reason, I watched the first episode of the first season (on Peacock Broadcasting).
"1883" is a prequel of sorts
) It must have felt like the Dutton family, because I’m currently watching ten episodes of Taylor Sheridan’s latest show. It’s (fictionally) 1883, when the Dutton family from Tennessee joins a large group to travel by train from Fort Worth, Texas, to “somewhere out west.” When they reach Montana, they have to stop. Again, this is all fiction, but given the age of the people and Costner’s birth in 1955, his character could very well be the great, great-grandson of the Dutton patriarch (played by Tim McGraw) in 1883.
It’s not the kind of show I can get invested in and watch
For example, "Yellowstone" with sons born in 1875, 1900, 1925, and 1950; is a truly great series, all the actors are top-notch, the cinematography and sound are excellent. It’s hard to find characters with redeeming qualities, and I’ve long disliked shows that focus on constant bickering and fighting and often murder. Now in my 70s, I like to spend my time on "pleasant" stories NB – "1883" A truly excellent and interesting series that truly depicts the hardships of traveling through unknown territories trying to find a new life in a new place.
