A modern tale of fortune seeking in the world of West Texas oil rigs. Typically, the landowner’s job is to negotiate and make deals with landowners who hold mineral rights to lease those rights to the company they represent. They essentially manage the land and secure leases so they can drill for oil and gas. As construction foremen, they build roads, housing for workers (men’s camp), supervise the assembly of earth moving equipment, and the drilling of the well itself, especially in remote areas. They are also partially credited as fixers, problem solvers, and mediators. Featured on CBS News Sunday Morning: Episode #44.24 (2022). This could easily be rated 8.5-9. If only the daughter and ex-wife/mother weren’t embarrassed and sexualized. They serve no plot purpose and are simply annoying and offensive to women in West Texas. I’m from far West Texas myself, so I kind of get where Sheridan is coming from, but this is awful. West Texas women are the strongest, most ambitious women I know. Plus, the writing and acting are amazing. Sheridan could easily have another Yellowstone on his hands if he could get rid of some very uncomfortable intermarital lust. But then again, I like Sheridan’s writing (and acting) and it’s a very enjoyable show for the most part.
